It’s a weekend packed with UFC fights, and Pat and Connor have a unique way of looking at them. Today your hosts discuss the concept of “style.” What is a fighting style? How does it impact an analysts perceptions of a fight, and how does it affect a fighter’s performance against another athlete of a same or different style?

We focus this discussion on many fighters, but featured heavily are some of this weekend’s most prominent competitors, including Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold, John Lineker, and Ian McCall.

All of that and more on this episode of Heavy Hands!

  1. Jeff says:

I think one thing that’s relevant to the discussion of Bisping’s style is that he’s a converted southpaw. He’s left-handed, much as the southpaw Rockhold is right-handed.

So I think Bisping’s coaches, knowing he has a powerful jab and not a ton of pop in his right, emphasize that outside striking style.

    • Connor says:

Interesting. I didn’t know that about him. Still, converted southpaws can learn to fight on the inside just fine. Look at Jerome Le Banner, Miguel Cotto, etc. Left hooks galore, man!
